RICCARDO CERVI NEW PLAYER FOR PALLACANESTRO VARESE

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the signing of player Riccardo Cervi. Class of 1991, Cervi has signed a contract that will keep him at the Red & Whites Club until the end of the 2019/20 season. Cervi, who stands at 215 cm and is an expert centre, has recently undertaken a path of rehabilitation with Red & Whites fitness coach Silvio Barnabà that will bring him up to standard fitness level. In his career, he had always worn a Reggio Emilia jersey, his home town team, with the exception of the 2015-2016 season, when he played for Sidigas Avellino.

Andrea Conti, General Manager, Openjobmetis Varese Basketball: «Riccardo Cervi's signature is another in a long line of the affinity and continual support for our company. We are confident that his contribution will help our team achieve the best possible results».

Cervi grew up in the youth sector of Reggiana Basketball, making his début in the First Team in the 2009-2010 season in LegaDue and was promoted to Serie A in 2011-2012. His impact in top level basketball series was immediately a positive one, so much so that in 2013-2014 he became part of the Reggiana quintet on a permanent basis, with a decisive result in Eurochallenge and reached the play-off final in the 2014-2015 season, which was lost against Dinamo Sassari at the end of an extremely balanced series. In 2015-2016, he played for Sidigas Avellino. With the Irpinians, coached by coach Sacripanti, Cervi clearly improved his stats (9 points and 5 rebounds in 20' of play) helping to position the Campanians in the semifinal play-offs and in the final of the Coppa Italia. He returned to Reggio Emilia the following season, signing a three-year contract during which he played over 70 league games, putting 9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks on average per game onto the score sheet.

Cervi is in the National team and played 9 FIBA EuroBasket matches with the Under 20s team in 2011, and has won a silver medal. He made his début in the senior national team in 2012 on the occasion of the All Star Game and in the summer of 2014, he took part in the qualifications for the European Championships in 2015. In 2016, he was called up for the FIBA 2016 Olympic Qualification Tournament in Turin.
