lug 28, 2019
Varese Basketball is pleased to announces that it has reached an annual agreement with expert Italian centre Luca Gandini, who completes Coach Caja’s roster for the 2019-2020 season. Last year, he wore a Ravenna jersey, the team with whom he reached the playoffs, qualifying for promotion to Serie A.
Luca Gandini, Centre Varese Basketball: «I'm very happy to be here. When I discovered that historic club Varese wanted me, I did all I could to be available right away, giving up a week's holiday so that I could be ready as soon as possible. I'm very excited, not only about the opportunity to be able to play on this court, but also because it will be my first experience in Serie A. I can't wait to get started».
Luca Gandini has 14 seasons behind him on the A2 and B1 courts, a series in which he made his debut among the ‘pros’ following good performances in the youth teams. In 2009, he was called up for the first time after 4 years to Lumezzane by the historic Verona team in A Dilettanti where he scored 6.9 points and 7.3 rebounds. After a year at Trento, he donned a jersey with his native Trieste – 8.3 points and almost 8 average rebounds which were sufficient for promotion to Legadue. He replicated the stats in his second year at Friuli. He was then called up a second time by Verona with whom he won the A2 Gold Italian Cup (2014-2015). Taken on by Mantua in the following summer, he then played two championships in Fortitudo Bologna, holding aloft the LNP 2016 Super Cup. Forced to skip the first round of the playoffs due to an injury, he closed last season in Ravenna totalling 3.7 points and 4 rebounds in 17’ on average.
