L.J. PEAK NEW SIGNING FOR VARESE BASKETBALL

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the successful signing of player L.J. Peak. Born in 1996, Peak has signed a contract that will keep him at the Red & White’s club until the 2019/2020 season. A dynamic player capable of covering the wing and guard positions, Peak played in Serie A with Pistoia last season.

He has an imposing physicality, is able to attack the basket, and is a good three-point shooter. Shining star of Gaffney High School (South Carolina) and Whitney Young School (Illinois) where he won several titles, Darryl Leon "L.J." Peak is a product of prestigious Georgetown University in Washington DC. With a record number of points at his début (23), and star in the three years in a Hoyas jersey, he was in the best Rookies team in the NCAA Big East Conference and world champion with the American U19 National team at the 2015 World championship in Greece. In 2017, after the Draft, he took part in the Summer League with the Rockets and in the Boston Celtics training camp which, in October, allowed him to play in the G-League with the Main Red Claws (12 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 31' ). In April, he flew to Wellington in New Zealand to help the Saints hit the national title for the third consecutive year. Despite the defeat in the final series by Southland Sharks, Peak is the leading light of the season with 20.2 points (55% 2-pointers, 39% 3-pointers, 82% free throws) and 3.2 rebounds per match. These stats, together with his multiple skills in attacking the ring, his basketball acumen and good aptitude in half-court defence, earned him an offer from Pistoia with whom he ended the season with 12.7 points (50% 2-pointers, 33% 3-pointers, and 62% free throws) in 29', 2.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and a season-high of 35 points against Sassari.
