INGUS JAKOVIČS NEW SIGNING FOR VARESE BASKETBALL
ago 30, 2019
Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the signing of Ingus Jakovičs, who signed a two-month contract with an option for renewal. Point/guard, class of 1993, with a great deal of dynamism, Jakovičs wore the Ventspils jersey for the last three seasons where he managed to display his form and also recently in the Basketball Champions League.
Andrea Conti, general manager of Openjobmetis Varese Basketball: «We are very happy to have reached an agreement with Ingus in such a short time. We appreciated the lad's desire to get involved and he is ready to join the team at such short notice that on the same day he will be joining his new team-mates in Bormio. We are convinced that he will be able to give us a big helping hand».
Jakovičs was born in Madona, Latvia, and began his career when he was just sixteen and began to make a living in the second Latvian league wearing the jerseys of Gulbenes buki and BAA Riga. The performances were immediately convincing, so much so that, in the 2011-2012 season, he signed a biennial for Liepajas Lauvas, the highest team in the Latvian championship rankings with whom he totalled an average score of almost 11 points per game. From there, he transferred to VEF Riga and in 2016-2017, after a brief experience with Nižnij Novgorod (where he also played with Siim-Sander Vene), he went to Ventspils, where he stayed until the season ended and where he managed to carve out a leading role both in the league (almost 10 points and 3 assists per game) and in the ultimate Basketball Champions League, where he scored 11.5 points on average because of the outstanding performance that he managed to achieve.
Jakovičs has also worn his own country's jersey, winning a silver medal at the Under 20s European Championships in 2013 and taking part, with the senior national team, in the recent World Cup qualifiers (8 points and 3 assists per game).
