ANTONIO IANNUZZI, A NEW SIGNING FOR VARESE BASKETBALL

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the signing of player Antonio Iannuzzi. Centre, class of 1991, Iannuzzi has signed a contract that will bind him to the Red & White’s club until the end of the 2018/19 season. He is a player who combines power with good fundamental technique and subtle moves with his back to the basket. Last season he played in Serie A with Torino and Brindisi.

Iannuzzi began playing basketball between his native city of Avellino and Mens Sana Siena, and made his debut in Serie A Dilettanti with Ferentino at 19, the team with whom he won promotion in Legadue as leading player in 2011/12 – 9 points and 7 rebounds on average. After two years in Matera, with whom he was a regular in the quintet, and tallying up some important stats (14.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in 2012/13, 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds the following season), he reached the definitive initiation into the 2-year period at Omegna in A2 Silver. With them, he won the ‘Best of the Month’ award several times due to the 18 points 7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in the first year and 13.7 points, 7 rebounds and 2.3 assists the second. The call from the top came in 2016/17 from Capo d'Orlando. With his 8.5 points and 4.2 rebounds on average, he was the protagonist in the Sicilian team’s amazing season which culminated with the playoffs. Last summer he made an agreement with Torino with whom he played only 19 games (15 minutes on average at 5.8 points and 2.7 rebounds) before being loaned to Brindisi, with whom he ended the season at 6.5 points, 4.8 rebounds in 18 minutes on average.
He has been in the national youth sector since 2006. On the list of the 16 called up by Meo Sacchetti, he made his debut last season with the senior national team with whom he represented Italy in the FIBA 2019 World Cup qualifiers against Romania and the Netherlands.
