THOMAS SCRUBB, A NEW SIGNING FOR VARESE BASKETBALL

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the successful engagement of player Thomas Scrubb. Class of 1991, Scrubb has signed a contract that will bind him to the Red & Whites until the end of the 2018/19 season. A natural lefty, Scrubb is a player with great energy, who is multi-dimensional, and is always able to create something positive for the team. Last season, with 53.3% 3-pointers, he was the best shooter from the key in the Serie A Basketball League.

A native of Richmond (Canada) with a British passport, Scrubb trained at Carleton University, where he won 5 consecutive titles as well as numerous personal awards (MVP in 2013 and best defender in 2014 and 2015). He began his professional career in the ranks of Joensuun Kataja (here he played with former Red & Whites captain Teemu Rannikko), a Finnish team with whom he totalled 14.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists (53% 2-pointers, 49% 3-pointers) in the championship and 12.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals in the 12 games in the FIBA Europe Cup. In the 2016/17 season he signed for the Giessen 46ers totalling 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.8 steals but, in January, he was forced to stop due to a foot problem. Last season he wore an Avellino jersey with 19.8 minutes, 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds (57% 2-pointers and 53% 3-pointers, and best league specialist) in the league, 9.3 points, 6 rebounds in the Champions League, and 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in the FIBA Europe Cup, losing in the finals to Venice.
He was a semi-finalist with the Canadian National team at the 2011 Universiade and was called up for the 2016 Olympics qualifying matches (4 games, 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds). His brother is Philip Scrubb, Varese's opponent in the FIBA Europe Cup final at Chalon.
