OPENJOBMETIS, AGREEMENT WITH MARIO DELAS

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball announces that it has reached an agreement with Croatian player Mario Delas. Playing as centre, class of 1990, Delas has signed a contract that will keep him at the Red & Whites until the end of the current season. A player with excellent back-to-the-basket fundamentals and an effective shot from the middle, with a Croatia jersey he was the lead player with the Under-18s (European bronze in 2008), Under-19s (world bronze in 2009, MVP of the tournament) and was also with the Senior National Team at the European Championship in Slovenia in 2013.

Career

Born and raised in a basketball environment in Split, he made his debut at the age of 16 with his hometown team, KK, where he played for four seasons. His stats between Lega Adriatica (7.6 points and 4 rebounds in 2008-09) and Croatian championship (9.9 points and 3.7 rebounds) sparked the interest of Zalgiris Kaunas who, in January 2010, hired him to play in the Euroleague (4.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 6 matches). In Lithuania, he won two championships (2011-12, 2012-13) and the Baltic League (2009-10) and gained experience playing on loan with Cibona Zagreb, Siauliai (Eurocup) and Baltai. He ended the last season with Zalgiris with 5.2 points, 3 rebounds in the VTB League, 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds in the Lithuanian championship and 3 points and 1.4 rebounds in 23 Euroleague matches. In the summer of 2013, he moved to Obraidoro in the Spanish ACB where he scored 9.4 points, 4 rebounds and 1.3 assists (35% 3-pointers) in 34 games. In 2015, he returned to his homeland and, with a Cedevita Zagabria jersey, won the championship and the Croatian cup, as well as playing in the Euroleague and Eurocup. He played under the guidance of the duo Mrsic-Pozzecco until January 2016 and then moved on to Kalev / Cramo with whom he won the Estonian title (8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 16 games). Last year, he made his debut in the Italian championship at Capo d'Orlando – the 9.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 24 minutes are effective for the current season where he totalled 6.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 22 minutes.
