MAALIK WAYNS: A NEW ENTRY IN OPENJOBMETIS
Pallacanestro Openjobmetis Varese has reached an agreement with player Maalik Wayns. Born in 1991, Wayns signed a one-year contract to play with the white-and-red club until the end of the 2015/2016 sport season. Wayns is a full-fledged point guard. With his excellent game vision and good shooting abilities, he can be a threat also when doing dribble penetration. He did great during the Summer League season in Las Vegas with the Dallas Mavericks, scoring an average of 10.2 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Career
Twice MVP of the Philadelphia Catholic League and member of the First Team All-City and All-State of Pennsylvania, his basketball career was already in full blossom when he was in high school. In his junior year, he scored 22.4 points, 5.1 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 steals, which granted him the nomination to the All-American parade and to the McDonald’s All-American, but, most importantly, he was enrolled by the prestigious college in Villanova. With an average of 12.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in the three years in university, Wayns is one of the stars of the Big East Conference. Not selected at the draft, he played in the 2012 Summer League in Orlando and Las Vegas, which led to his enrollment by the Philadelphia 76ers. After a short period with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the D-League, he returned to the NBA, signing up with the Los Angeles Clippers until February (2.8 points and 1.1 assists in 8 games) and closing the season with the Vipers. In the summer of 2014, he moved to Europe, signing a contract with Zalgiris Kaunas. However, because of an accident, his adventure in Lithuania lasted only few months. He was back on the court in February 2015 with the Delaware 87ers (D-League) averaging 11.1 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.3 rebounds. Then he joined the Atenienses de Manatì (Puerto Rico) averaging 9.8 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.6 rebounds.
