JEAN SALUMU, NEW SIGNING FOR OPENJOBMETIS VARESE

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the successful signing of player Jean Salumu. Born in 1990, Salumu has signed a contract that will keep him at the Red & Whites club until the end of the current season with an extension option for the following one. Belgian shooting guard/forward, Salumu comes to Varese after playing a great start to the season with the Turkish Sarkaya team.

Career

Belgian native of Sint-Niklaas, Salumu has had his name associated with the Ostend team since the beginning of his professional career. The year with the Leuven Bears (2011/12), placed him firmly on the radar of the yellow and black team who took him on again in the following year, which gave way to a winning combination with 6 national championships and 6 Belgian cups. In addition to being a lead player several times, Salumu has had personal recognition with the title of MVP of the championship (12.9 points on average), and is the first ever Belgian player to do this. Moreover, he received the award of Rookie of the year in 2013, the Player of the Year award, and a nomination for the best offensive and defensive quintet in 2018. Last summer he signed for the Turks of Sarkaya – 13.8 points in 6 games with 30.7% 3-pointers and 71.8% 2-pointers. Already a team-mate of Dominique Archie and Varese's adversary in the FIBA Europe Cup in 2015/16 (top scorer with 22 points, 4/6 2-pointers and 3/4 3-pointers), this year in the same competition he scored 15.4 points in 28’ to which 15.5 points in 24’ was added in the FIBA Basketball Champions League.



Since 2009 he has been wearing the national’s jersey, first with the Under 20s team, then with the senior team with which he took part in Eurobasket 2015 and 2017 (11.2 and 6 points in two rounds) and the qualifications for the next European tournament in 2021 collecting 7.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
