DOMINIQUE ARCHIE, NEW SIGNING FOR VARESE BASKETBALL

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball is happy to announce the signing of player Dominique Archie. American Archie, wing, class of 1987, has signed a contract that will keep him at the Red & Whites until the end of the 2018/19 season. A dynamic player with great athleticism and capable of covering both wing spots, Archie played in Israel last season with Bnei Herzliya, a team with whom he also played in the FIBA Europe Cup.

Attilio Caja, coach, Openjobmetis Varese Basketball: «Archie is a player we've been watching for a long time. We like him because he plays a team game and on court he is able to play both internally and externally. He is a dangerous 3-point scorer and at the same time has a physique that allows him to attack the basket. We like his aggression and his predisposition to recover rebounds. These features are important indicators of his ability to work in a team and as a player of character. All this means that we have focused on him for this role».

Player Profile:

Date of birth: 19 August 1987

Place of birth: Augusta (Georgia, USA)

Height: 201 cm

Role: Wing

Career:

Beginning at South Carolina (10.7 points and 5.3 average rebounds in 4 years) in the senior year at university, he failed to land in the NBA draft due to a cruciate ligament injury. This was a pity because experts had counted on him as a safe choice in the first round. Having recovered from injury in 2010, he was called by Austin Toros with a number 14 jersey in the draft of the NBA D-League. After a year with the franchise affiliated to the San Antonio Spurs, he signed a 2-year contract with Romanian Timisoara with whom he played in the championship (13.3 points, 6 rebounds and a final championship title in 2012), Balkan League (15.1 points and 6.8 rebounds) and Eurochallenge (11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds). In the summer of 2013, he arrived in Italy and was hired by the ambitious Capo d'Orlando, with Gianmarco Pozzecco as coach, and was enrolled in the DNA Gold championship. The 15.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 37% from the key in the regular season, together with the 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the playoffs, were decisive in taking the Sicilians to promotion in Serie A, obtained after a redraw following the final series loss to Trento. Invited to a camp by the Brooklyn Nets, Archie decided to stay in Sicily for another year which resulted in him being, once again, a key player – 13.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 38% 3-pointers. Four days from the end and salvation assured, he decided to leave Capo d'Orlando to sign for Ostend. With the Belgian team he played the final part of the 2014/15 season winning the Scudetto and, with his stay confirmed, he played in the Eurocup and made the triplet – championship, Supercup and the Lega Cup. After Belgium, Archie returned to Capo d'Orlando contributing to an excellent Blue & Whites season (13.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 42% 3-pointers in 31 minutes) culminating in qualifying for the playoffs and the Italian Cup. In this season, he played in Israel with Bnei Herzliya, a team with whom he scored 8.6 points (54% 2-pointers, 36% 3-pointers), 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 25 minutes in the league and 7.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 26 minutes in the FIBA Europe Cup.
