ANDREA CONTI, NEW GENERAL MANAGER AT THE RED & WHITES

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball announces that it has reached an agreement with Andrea Conti who will now adopt the role of general manager of the club in Piazza Monte Grappa. The manager from Rho has signed a two-year contract with Varese, with an option for a third. This is a homecoming for Conti as he wore a Red and White jersey on several occasions between 1992 and 1998.
He says: «I am flattered and honoured by the opportunity that has been granted me. I will put my all into maintaining those values that Varese Basketball has taught me since I was a boy. I would like to thank all those who have made my arrival possible – the Varese Basketball Board of Directors, chaired by Marco Vittorelli, and the owners of the Red & Whites club made up of the ‘Varese in the Heart’ Consortium and the ‘We Are Basketball’ Trust who, because of Alberto Castelli and Umberto Argieri, made me feel that I was a key component in the company from the outset. I am also very happy to see Toto Bulgheroni again who, in addition to being my first chairman, has played a fundamental role in my growth as a sportsman and as a man».
Career:
Andrea Conti, brother of Paolo, and former captain and assistant coach of Varese Basketball, took his first steps in basketball playing in the youth clubs of his hometown, Rho, before moving on to those of Varese Basketball, with whom he made two appearances in A2 in the 1992/93 season. After his time at Rho (C1), Robur et Fides (B2), and Biella (B1) between 1994 and 1997, in the 1997/98 season he returned to the Varese Roosters, with whom he made his debut in Serie A (September 21 against Rome) and even managed to find space in the Korac Cup (6 points average in 7 games). From 1998 to 2001, he played in B1 (first in Latina and then in Vigevano), before going on to Soresina where he tallied up a score of almost 2,000 points in five seasons. From 2007 to 2009 he wore a Juvi Cremona jersey, before returning to Serie A with Vanoli, the team with whom he ended his career as a player in 2013.
The separation from basketball lasted only a few months and in November 2013 Conti began his managerial career in the role as team manager at Cremona. After less than a year, Vanoli offered him the opportunity to become general manager, a role that allowed him to become the second best manager of the entire championship in the 2015/16 season, ranking behind Nicola Alberani and before Salvatore Trainotti.
