Pallacanestro Openjobmetis Varese has reached an agreement with Mychel Thompson. A shooting guard/forward from the USA with Bahamian passport, Thompson signed a one-year contract to play with the white-and-red club until the end of the 2015/2016 sport season. A great athletic player, Mychel comes from a basketball family. His father (first choice in the 1978 NBA Draft) won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, while his brother Klay won the NBA championship ring with the Golden State Warriors in June last year.

Mychel Thompson grew at the Californian Pepperdine College where, already in his first year, he drew the attention for his three-point shooting abilities (37.3% with 8 points and almost 3 rebounds per game). In the following three years, his statistics continued to improve, reaching 14.6 points and 5.9 rebounds in his senior year. At the end of his university career, his average was 11 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. These averages brought him into the Top 15 chart of the best scorers of all times for the college with 1,413 points. For two years in a raw, he was nominated to the All-West Coast Conference Team. He was also the best three-point shooter of the team for four consecutive years. At the 2011 Draft, he was not selected and was enrolled in the D-League by the Erie BayHawks, with which he played until 2013. In the meantime, he also managed to have a taste of the NBA world with short experiences with the Cavaliers (5 games) and the Knicks (Summer League 2012).
In January 2013, he joined the Sioux Falls Skyforce as a result of an exchange and, after the Summer League with the Timberwolves, he joined the Santa Cruz Warriors. Thompson played with this Golden State NBA charter member for two years and won the D-League title last April. Here are his statistics at the end of the championship: 14.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists with 51% of two-pointers and 37.5% of three-pointers.
