Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the signing of Michele Ruzzier. Point guard, class of 1993, 183 cm and 82 kg, Ruzzier has signed an agreement that will keep him at the Red & Whites club until the end of the 2020-2021 season, with the option of renewal for the following season. I can’t wait to get going»*. Michele Ruzzier was born on 9 February 1993 in Trieste, the city where he began to take his first steps in the world of basketball at the age of 4. Following his time at Azzurra Trieste, “Ruz” transferred to Trieste Basketball, where he finished his journey in the youth sector and made his début in the First Team in the A Amateurs. He began to find more space in the following year and contributed to the promotion of Trieste in the LegaDue team with more than 8 points on average in more than 21 minutes of play. After two good seasons, he moved to Reyer Venezia in 2014, a team with whom he put in 82 games, making his début in Serie A. In 2016-2017, Orogranata loaned him out to Fortitudo Bologna in LegaDue. Despite a season that was rife with injuries, Michele put all his qualities on show and was valuable on his arrival for his team in the final promotion, which was then won by Brescia. He returned to Serie A in the following year to the ranks of Cremona under Coach Sacchetti, where he made a definitive leap in quality by joining Trevis Diener in the control room. He won the Coppa Italia in 2018-2019 (12 points with 3/6 3-pointers in the final against Brindisi) and helped to pull Vanoli towards a historic second place in the championship. Last season’s averages improved further, ending with 9.5 points and 3.1 assists per game. Ruzzier has been in the national team rounds for a number of years. He won the 2013 European Championship in Estonia with the Under 20s. In the following year, he took part in the Experimental National Team, coached by Caja. Last year, he finally made his début with the National A team in games against Russia and Estonia, valid for the EuroBasket 2021 qualifiers.
