JOSH MAYO NEW SIGNING FOR VARESE BASKETBALL

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball is happy to announce the signing of player, Josh Mayo. Point guard, class of 1987, has signed a two-year contract that will keep him at the Piazza Monte Grappa club until the end of the 2020-2021 season. Mayo comes into the Red & Whites fold after having spent the last three years in Germany, in the ranks of the Telekom Bonn team, of whom he was captain.

Born in Munster (Indiana), Mayo began his professional career at Clermont in the French Pro B after completing 4 years at college at Illinois-Chicago with an average of14 points (17 in the last two years) with over 40% 3-pointers. In 2011-2012, he moved to the east, first to Latvia with Liepajas Lauvas with whom he played in the championship and the Baltic League, and then in Ukraine with MBK Mykolaiv. Two seasons with excellent stats – third best scorer (18.1 points) and best assist (5.1) in the LBL, 16.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists in the BBL and 16.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in the USL. Taken on by Montegranaro in Serie A, he closed the 2013-2014 championship in Rome with whom he reached the championship semi-final. After a year between Turkey and Spain with Torku Konyaspor and Fuenlabrada, he returned to Italy and signed up with Scafati. With the Campania team, he held up the Italian Cup in the final and reached promotion to the semifinals with his 15.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. In the last 3 seasons, he played in the Bundesliga in Bonn with whom he also played in the Europe in FIBA Europe Cup (12.9 points, 4.5 assists and the semifinals in 2017) and the Champions League (14.1 points and 3.3 assists). Even in Germany, he proves to be a leader (called up twice in the All Star Game) and a dangerous shooter from the key – he closed last season with 12.9 points, 2.8 assists with 37% 3-pointers.
